Registering on USU-guest (Optional)
This section is only necessary if you want to be on the school Wi-Fi, the first section is helpful though if you’re setting up home Wi-Fi, or just want to use hotspot.
First Login and Connection to temporary hotspot
- After turning on, wait for all the BEGIN SSH HOST KEYS stuff to finish (you can’t login before that)
- Default login is:
- username: ubuntu
- password: ubuntu
- I used my phone hotspot for this next part, but connect to internet following this guide (any internet that actually has a password will work):
- After you connect to your Wi-Fi, you’ll be switching to a different computer for a sec.
Getting MAC Address
ip address
Look for the line that has wlan0: <BROADCAST……
After that line, there will be one that says
link/ether b8:27……
Copy the letters after to get the MAC Address. For me, it looked like b8:27:eb:76:ab:ba
- Open https://netreg.usu.edu/registrations/ and on the right, register the raspberry pi using the mac address you got in the previous step
- Now switch back to raspberry pi
